Ceramic Capacitors
A ceramic capacitor is a type of fixed-value capacitor that uses ceramic material as its dielectric. It consists of alternating layers of ceramic and metal forming the electrodes. The electrical characteristics and applications of the capacitor depend on the composition of the ceramic material used. Ceramic capacitors are classified into two application categories:
l Class 1 ceramic capacitors offer high stability and low losses, making them suitable for resonant circuit applications.
l Class 2 ceramic capacitors offer high volumetric efficiency, making them ideal for buffer, by-pass, and coupling applications.
Multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs), including special shapes and styles, are the most commonly produced and used capacitors in electronic equipment, with over a trillion pieces produced annually (10^12).
Ceramic capacitors come in various forms, such as those used for RFI/EMI suppression, feed-through capacitors, and larger power capacitors for transmitters.
